MO- The staff of George Washington
Carver National Monument is pleased to announce the dates for homeschool
education days in 2020. Homeschool days run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., are free of
charge, and are for all ages unless otherwise noted. Registration is required.
The first program, Making a National
Monument, is set for February 28th. Students will use actual transcripts to reenact a 1921 House Ways and Means Committee hearing about a peanut tariff, with George Washington Carver as the expert witness. This is a fun introduction to using primary documents. Other activities include researching the museum and creating a brand-new exhibit! Students will also discuss and debate the reasons for the monument’s establishment during World War II. This program is for students AGES 10 YEARS OLD AND UP.

April 10th – The
Secret Garden: Visit environmental education stations to find life on the forest floor, learn about producers and consumers in the forest ecosystem, and identify birds and flowers found in the woodlands of George Washington Carver’s childhood home. Outdoors, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. ALL AGES
August 11th – Summer
Service-Learning Day: Become a park volunteer, work to complete a service project, then attend a guided tour or science lab activity! Parental permission required. Outdoors, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. ALL AGES
October 1st &
20th – Pioneer Days: Step back in time to the 19th century and learn some of the daily chores and skills needed during George Washington Carver’s childhood: laundry, cooking, candles, and school. Outdoors, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. ALL AGES
