Coordinator and Instructor to the Veterinary Technology Program plus any other
assignments by the division chair and in keeping with the guidelines listed
below. Assignments may include off schedule hours.
Essential
Job Duties
In the area of Radiology
- Maintain IDEXX software updates and
equipment, including routine Quality Control and service.
- Prepare example images for lectures.
- Set-up equipment prior to radiology labs
and maintain equipment afterwards.
- Follow IACUC protocol on radiation
exposure per patient…
- Complete annual inspections of gowns
offsite with Mercy hospital.
In the area of Surgery
- ECG, Pulse Oximetry, End tidal CO2
monitor, Fluid Pump, Oxygen Concentrator, Warmer Unit, Anesthetic Machine
maintenance.
- Set up and prepare for surgery labs
- Rotate surgery packs and check for
expired packs
- Keep gowns, drapes in appropriate
aseptic condition
- Manage inventory of surgery supplies
In the area of Kennels
- Daily patient management including
Avimark and written medical records, vaccinations, HW prevention, flea
control.
- Monitor food usage and maintain
inventory of food and cat litter and coordinate relationship with
Heartland Inc.
- Daily kennel inspections and work with
weekly student kennel groups to provide appropriate animal care
- Control temperature and humidity in
animal areas
- Be aware of and in compliance with IACUC
protocols
- Be the initial faculty contact for
student concerns with animal health or injury and then triage with
student to decide if DVM care or alert is warranted.
- Coordinate animal care on snow days with
dorm and apartment students.
- Oversee animal adoption applications and
coordinate meet and greets and adoption release appointments with new
owners.
- Coordinate with local shelters and USDA
breeder to ensure program animal availability
- Maintain the kennel building facilities
and prepare for USDA inspections
- Maintain USDA intake and adoption
records and prepare for semi-annual inspections.
In the area of the Treatment Room
- Maintain Oxygen supply with vendor
- Complete quality control on CBC and Chemistry
machine, autoclave, ECG, Warming Equipment, and Anesthetic Machines
- Set-up for labs for Companion Animal,
A&P, VHI, VHII, Clinical Pathology I, Clinical Pathology II, Large
Animal and Lab Animal
- Manage student Surgery Skills Sign-Up
- Manage inventory and expired products.
Order required medications/vaccines/anesthetics to be prepared for
patient needs.
- Maintain crash cart
- Adhere to OSHA guidelines and maintain
SDS sheets for program medication and supplies
In the Classroom and Office area
- Assist in grading and Canvas LMS
management
- Salthouse Essential Skills List
management with students
- Assist in Lab Practical Finals
- Participate in Vet Tech Club activities
and organization (ex. calendar sales, T-shirt orders, Vet Tech Week
Activities, Dog Washes etc.)
- Organize, plan and implement FFA Vet
Science Contest
- Participate in Department Activities and
events when possible. (ex.
fundraising, Aggie Day, Roughrider Scholarship Rodeo, Ag Division
meetings, Show-Me-Crowder, Foundation Dinner, etc.)
- Prepare students for VTNE success
- Keep CE hours current and maintain a
current license with the MVMB including Fear Free and BLS/ALS CPR
training
- Attend AVTE Conference, MVTA Conference
annually and supervise student attendance
- Any other duties or tasks as required by
Veterinary Technology Program
In the Community and Recruitment
- Participate in student recruitment
efforts for the Veterinary Technology Program (ex. Career fairs,
community events, Crowder College outreach activities, Newton County
Fair)
- Give prospective students tour of
program and discuss program admissions.
- Assist in managing program social media
presence
- Share adoption information with website
coordinator and share animals on PetFinder.com
