Joplin, MO
06/09/2020 09:10 AM

Community Support Services of Missouri is pleased to offer Summer Camp in July for children with developmental disabilities in Jasper and Newton Counties. CSS has hosted this long-running program for nearly 40 years.

Interested families/guardians should contact Eryn Miller at 417-624-4515 or via email at emiller@cssmo.org. Camp is open to residents of Jasper and Newton Counties ages 6-21 years.

Camp will follow Federal, State, County and City guidelines for group settings including limiting group size, more frequent cleaning and sanitizing of surfaces and shared items, and available masks for all participants. Camp Counselors will also take this opportunity to teach proper handwashing techniques and stress the importance of good hygiene to the Campers.

Jhan Hurn, CEO/president of Community Support Services of Missouri, noted, “All kids lose skills in the summer, but the children we serve are even more at risk to lose skills. Keeping our kids active and focused on skills will help ensure a successful transition back to school in the fall. Our board saw the need for camp this summer, maybe more than ever, and we appreciate their support of this program.”

Summer camp was started in the early 1970’s by a group of concerned families in their backyards. Over the years, the camp has changed to accommodate the needs of the children in our community. It has been a project of CSS since the early 1980’s.
