During a career that spans more than 40 years Chief Roberts has served as Chief of Police for the cities of Twisp, WA, and Union Gap, WA. He also served as Under Sheriff for Yakima County, WA. He served as Police Chief of Redmond, Oregon and Director for Deschutes County 911 before accepting his current position as Chief of Police of Joplin, MO. He has completed the FEMA Emergency Management Professional Development Series, is a graduate of the Northwest Law Enforcement Executive Command College, the FBI National Academy, and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar. He is past President of the Oregon Association Chiefs of Police, and is currently a Regional Vice-President for the Missouri Police Chiefs Association. He was appointed to the Oregon Department Public Safety Standards and Training by then Governor Ted Kulangoski. Missouri Governor Jay Nixon appointed him to the Missouri Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission. Chief Roberts was named the Missouri Police Chiefs Association’s - Chief of the Year for 2013.   Chief Roberts holds an MBA from William Woods University. Chief Roberts retired in 2014 after serving seven years for the City of Joplin. Chief Roberts served as the Director of Public Safety for the State of Missouri under Governor Jay Nixon from 2014-2017.

Leadership Joplin is a program developed by the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by community businesses to identify, cultivate and motivate future community leaders. Leadership Joplin is in its 34th year with more than 850 graduates. This informative and thought-provoking program introduces participants to the community, exposes them to its challenges and requires them to fully participate in the 12-session curriculum. In addition, Leadership Joplin provides a strategic curriculum to enhance participants’ leadership skills and creates a dialogue for discussion on relevant topics and assessment of case studies, ultimately supporting the Chamber’s strategic initiatives and goals.
