The Traveling Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Instructor is part of a new initiative, Enact Rural Impact: Adult Education Pathways Upward, by Crowder College Adult Education and Literacy. This role focuses on expanding adult education opportunities in rural communities across Barry, Dade, Lawrence, Newton, McDonald, and Stone counties.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Travel-Based Instruction and Support: The instructor will travel to rural communities by appointment, meeting students in locations such as libraries or churches. These are partner sites where Crowder College AEL does not currently offer in-person classes.
  • Student Enrollment and Engagement: The instructor enrolls students in "virtual live" classes and in the GED Academy online curriculum and guides them through both processes. They will continue to meet with students by appointment to provide ongoing support, tutoring, and encouragement.
  • Building Learning Communities: A significant goal is to establish small “learning communities” within each town, fostering peer support among students who otherwise might not have access to AEL classes.
  • In-Person and Remote Teaching: The instructor provides one-on-one or small group instruction, both in person and remotely if needed, to help students develop literacy and academic skills.
  • Assessments and Progress Tracking: The instructor administers and interprets TABE (Tests of Adult Basic Education) assessments to evaluate student progress and needs.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain confidential participant files, student folders, and classroom records accurately in the program. Maintain, complete, and submit confidential participant files, documents in student work folders, and keep student records accurately. Ensure that each student's information is documented correctly in our LACES data system.
  • Community Outreach and Partnerships: On days without student appointments, the instructor may visit rural communities to connect with local organizations and recruit new students. This outreach helps build awareness and support for the program.
